Where shall we go? The three little wanderers are looking up. The signpost, which serves as a resting place for three sparrows, seems to be unlabeled. Only a sign calling hikers to pause – as is also necessary sometimes in your life's journey to make sure you take the right path.
The figurine is based on a picture by Sister Maria Innocentia. Marion Huschka had designed the drawing at the request of Pastor Wilhelm Renz, who from 1917 ran an institution for previously homeless people near Gundelfingen. This figurine demands the entire experience and skills of the Manufaktur's employees , because it manufactured in 30 parts. One of the three boys has to be an individual produced before united with his friends. The painter would otherwise not be able to accurately color the spaces in between.
Firing and drying are also more complex compared with other figurines. Because the wayside cross needs a support. so that it does not sink during the firing. For this purpose, a special mold must be built, which is removed after the firing at 1,140 degrees.
