A Heartwarming Tribute to Winter Friendship Celebrate the simple magic of a winter’s day with Making New Friends (HUM 2002/0). This heartwarming figurine captures the pure, unadulterated joy of childhood. Bundled up in his warmest hand-painted hat, scarf, and mittens, a young boy reaches out with a gentle touch to greet his latest creation—a friendly snowman, complete with a dapper top hat and a sturdy broom.
Originally published in 1996 to commemorate the 125th Anniversary of the Goebel porcelain factory, this piece holds a special place in the history of M.I. Hummel. Its impressive scale and detailed storytelling make it a standout centerpiece for any holiday mantel or winter-themed display. It serves as a beautiful reminder that the warmth of friendship can be found even on the coldest, snowiest days.
Friendship is at the heart of the Hummel tradition. Build a complete winter scene by pairing this boy and his snowman with these seasonal favorites:
-
First Snow (HUM 2035) – Add a young girl to the scene who is just beginning to roll her own snowman.
-
Winter's Here (HUM 2185) – Another helpful boy with a broom, perfect for a coordinated village display.
-
Snow Day Swarovski (HUM 2306) – Add the sparkle of crystal snowballs to your frosty fun.
-
The Guardian (HUM 455) – Carry the theme of gentle protection and "new friends" from the barnyard into the snow.
