A Nostalgic Encounter on a Cold Winter’s Night “Have you been good?” It is the question that defines December 6th for children across Bavaria. In St. Nicholas Day (HUM 2012), master sculptor Helmut Fischer captures the fleeting moment when a child’s timidity turns to joy. With a shy smile and a rehearsed poem, the young boy melts the heart of the holy man, ensuring the rod remains tucked away while the jute sack overflows with treasures—including a charming Kasperl puppet.
St. Nicholas is dressed for the deep forest chill in a thick red coat and gloves, carrying a lantern to light his path. In a heartwarming detail, the young boy is so excited for the visit that he has rushed outside in nothing but his slippers and thick socks! Released in Autumn 1997, this figurine is a premier example of M.I. HUMMEL storytelling and a cornerstone for any holiday collection.
St. Nicholas Day is the perfect anchor for a larger holiday display. Pair it with these companion pieces:
-
Ruprecht (HUM 473) – The legendary companion to St. Nicholas to complete the folklore duo.
-
St. Nikolas Was Here (HUM 2024) – The newest addition to the St. Nicholas series for a multi-generational scene.
