A lifetime of compassion begins with a single choice. Experience the gentle heart of a classic story with Sensitive Hunter (HUM 6/I). Originally known as "The Timid Hunter," this beloved figurine depicts a young boy who has ventured into the woods with his trusty toy gun over his shoulder. However, upon coming face-to-face with a small, defenseless brown rabbit, he decides to pass up his shot—choosing friendship and mercy over the prize.
This piece is a celebration of kindness and one of the most enduring designs in M.I. Hummel history. As a cornerstone of the Children & Animal Friends collection, it perfectly captures Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel’s belief in the innocence and inherent goodness of childhood. Hand-painted with meticulous detail in Rödental, Germany, the figurine features a wonderful contrast between the boy’s adventurous spirit and his sensitive nature, making it a meaningful gift for those who value compassion and the protection of wildlife.
Whether you are building a forest-themed display or a collection of young adventurers, "Sensitive Hunter" pairs beautifully with these select pieces:
-
Playmates (HUM 58/I): The perfect "happily ever after" for our hunter's rabbit friend, featuring a boy who has chosen to care for his bunny companions rather than hunt them.
-
Sing Along (HUM 433): Continue the forest journey with this mystical encounter between a young wanderer and a wise raven.
-
Where Shall I Go? (HUM 465): A thoughtful companion that mirrors the boy's moment of pause and reflection in the middle of his journey.

More Information
The most notable variation is the shape of the young man's suspenders on his back - they can be found in both the "X" and "H" shape. The color of the rabbit was usually orange until early in the 1980s when it was changed to dark brown. In 1984 the 7.50" (6/II) size was temporarily withdrawn followed by (6/2/0) in 1999 and finally in 2002 the 4.75" (6/0) version. The current figurine (Hum 6/2/0) has returned to join the Hummel Classics series and is stamped with trademark 10. Made in Germany.
