Lamb - Lying (Nativity Piece) - Hum 2230/O
The Nativity Scene - a Christian Christmas symbol.
For many, perhaps just a decorative addition to the nativity scene, for us an essential part of the story: our white lambs. The presence of animals is not clearly documented in the Bible, but it is conceivable that the shepherds brought their lambs into the stable. Stable animals only appear in one of the two versions of the Christmas story, namely in the Gospel of Luke, which was written down between 80 and 90 AD. In the original, it is the ox and the donkey that meet Mary and Joseph, warm the newborn child and welcome it into the world. The classic stable animals also refer to the traditional birthplace of Jesus in the manger and represent his humble origins. The lying lamb completes the scene together with the Standing lamb (HUM 2230/P) and the Young Calf (HUM 2230/M).
In addition to the stable animals, shepherds and angels are also part of the nativity scene.
