Where shall we go? These three little wanderers pause to look up, searching for direction. The signpost—a resting place for three sparrows—remains unlabeled, save for a sign calling hikers to pause. It is a poignant reminder to pause and reflect on our own life's journey, ensuring we stay on the right path.

Based on an original drawing by Sister Maria Innocentia, this figurine was designed by Marion Huschka at the request of Pastor Wilhelm Renz for his refuge for the homeless near Gundelfingen. Bringing this scene to life requires the pinnacle of artisan skill, as the figurine is meticulously assembled from 30 individual parts. To ensure perfect detail, one of the boys is painted individually before being joined to his friends, allowing the painter to reach every intricate space.

The firing process is exceptionally complex. Because of the delicate wayside cross, a custom support mold must be built to prevent the piece from sinking during the 1,140 degrees firing. This mold is only removed once the piece has reached its final, hardened form.
